Joy is one of the more elusive human experiences.
We hold for a moment -
the look of a lover
the hand of a baby
the smell of sweet perfume
the excitement of a new car
And in a flash, it disappears.
When I taught meditation classes in person,
I would say that before I had started a meditation practice,
My ups and downs were sharp.
Big (elusive) joys and deep valleys.
I'd draw it like this...
And after I took on a meditation practice,
it felt miraculous
My joys weren't so sharp
And my valleys weren't so deep.
Like this...
What was amazing, though,
was my BASELINE of joy increased.
My everyday happiness and joy was SO much higher!
I'd point out that the bar - literally - raised.
Know that meditation is not a cure all.
It is a time-tested.
